*NEW* PA 3 – CONTINUE PATTERNS USING THE PART THAT REPEATS

ELEMENT: CONTINUE A PATTERN USING THE PART THAT REPEATS

Recognising, describing and explaining patterns is integral to understanding mathematics because mathematics is full of
patterns.
Patterns in primary school are all arithmetic progressions – meaning they have a part that repeats in the same way.
In number patterns, this means there is a common difference between consecutive terms.
Students investigate identifying the part that repeats is a pattern of shapes or objects, and continuing the pattern by adding the part that repeats.
