MG 51 – CONVERT BETWEEN KILOMETRES, METRES, CENTIMETRES AND MILLIMETRES USING MULTIPLICATIVE PLACE VALUE

Children measure lengths and perimeters in centimetres and millimetres, metres and centimetres, then convert between centimetres and millimetres, and between metres and centimetres, by multiplying and dividing by 10 or 100 related to multiplicative place value.

Children then investigate metric length units to (decametres, hectometres and) kilometres, identifying the relationship to multiplicative place value and measure lengths and perimeters in combinations of kilometres and metres, then convert to metres, and in metres, and then convert to combinations of kilometres and metres.

Children compare the metric system and the imperial system.
