MG 21 – MEASURE LENGTH USING A TAPE MEASURE OF INFORMAL UNITS

Children construct a measuring tape by moving and marking an informal unit of measurement along a sheet of paper, then use it to measure lengths. They identify they need more short units than long units to measure the same length.
They explain the need for a standard unit.
They then investigate centimetre and metre lengths, identifying that there are 100 centimetres in a metre.
They estimate and measure lengths to the nearest centimetre and metre.
