MG 14 – MEASURE LENGTH USING MULTIPLE AND SINGLE INFORMAL UNITS
Children use their developing understanding of the 3 dimensions (up and down, left to right, front to back) to identify length as measuring 1 dimension.
Children use multiple uniform informal units to estimate and measure the length of shapes and objects.
Children relate the size of the unit to the number of the units needed.
Children then use a single informal unit, by marking and moving, to estimate and measure the length of shapes and objects.
