FD 12 PV 21 – MULTIPLICATIVE, STANDARD AND NON-STANDARD PLACE VALUE TO HUNDREDTHS
From Year 3, children begin to investigate place value of whole numbers both additively and multiplicatively.
From Year 4, children build on this understanding to include fractions as they investigate decimals to tenths – by dividing 1 by 10 to get a tenth, then to hundredths – by dividing a tenth by 10 to get a hundredth.
Children investigate standard and non-standard place value of place values (1, 10, 100) to include hundredths.
Investigating decimals through metric measurement makes decimals visible – integrated with Measurement and Geometry 30, Measurement and Geometry 39.
