ECG 4 – COUNT ITEMS WITH ONE-TO-ONE CORRESPONDENCE

After children have begun to develop their capacity to count forwards and backwards, read and write numerals, (Early Counting and Grouping 1, 2, 3), they begin to count items by touching and moving each item as it is counted, to develop one-to-one correspondence to at least 10, then to 20. Children continue to develop their capacity to count, read and write numerals at the same time as they apply their growing capacity to count items.
