Year 5 Professional Learning

In Year 5 children continue to use their understanding of Addition and Subtraction and standard and non-standard place value to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and extend their investigation of standard and non-standard Place Value to thousandths. They continue to investigate Multiplication and Division, Place Value and Fractions multiplicatively. They begin to multiply two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers. They begin to investigate division as multiplication by a fraction and the meaning of the vinculum. They begin to investigate extending multiplicative Place Value to include decimals to thousandths and multiplication and division by 100 and 1000. They continue to relate multiplicative place value to metric measurement, converting between units of measurement of length and mass using multiplicative place value.
