Year 4 Professional Learning

In Year 4, children continue to use their understanding of Addition and Subtraction and standard and non-standard place value to add and subtract five-digit numbers and extend their investigation of standard and non-standard Place Value to five-digit numbers, tenths and hundredths. They continue to investigate Multiplication and Division, Place Value and Fractions multiplicatively. They begin to investigate multiplication and division by 9, 6, 8 and 7 using the distributive property. They begin to investigate equivalent fractions through concrete material and the relationship between the numerator and denominatorThey begin to investigate extending whole number multiplicative Place Value to include decimals to tenths and hundredths. They continue to relate multiplicative place value to metric measurement, converting between units of length using multiplicative place value.
