Year 1 Professional Learning
In Year 1 children begin to investigate Number concepts formally. The focus is on Addition and Subtraction, and the related standard and non-standard place value concepts. The target by the end of Year 1 is for children to be adding and subtracting a single-digit number bridging any decade using place value. Multiplication and division are additive in Year 1 as children begin to skip count. Multiplicative multiplication and division begin in Year 3.
